Wixie is a digital canvas students can use to demonstrate their learning. Because Wixie works in the cloud, students and teachers can use it in the classroom as well as extend the learning day after they leave their school building!
Because Wixie works in the cloud, students can start a project at school on one device and finish working on it at home on another. (Wixie works through a browser on Window and Macintosh computers and Chromebooks and through an app on Android tablets and iPads).
Teachers can use Wixie to comment on and evaluate student work completed at school or home. They can use the teacher tools to customize and assign differentiated activities when they are logged in at school or when they are planning instruction at home.
Wixie provides opportunities to reinforce classroom learning through additional practice or extended work.
If students have access to devices at home, teachers can assign additional learning activities as homework. Teachers can easily differentiate these activities to reinforce learning for those who need it, while providing extensions for students who need a little push to go beyond.
Students can continue these personalized assignments where families can support them and teachers can provide feedback through comments on their progress.
Wixie promotes parent and family engagement by making them part of the learning team.
Wixie provides a window into a child’s classroom work and opportunities for families to work with their child on classroom projects. Students can log in to their account to show off their effort and progress at school and families can work together to create stories about events and ideals important to their family.
If parents are uncertain about how to approach work in Wixie with their child, they can simply support the activities assigned by their teacher. They can also refer to parent guides filled with ideas appropriate to the level of their child.
Wixie motivates learners and helps them build confidence in expressing themselves.
Wixie contains a range of tools that allow students to express their passions, interests, and feelings. While they can use Wixie to complete additional instructional tasks beyond the walls of their classroom, most will choose to use Wixie for play and self-expression. As they combine text, visual images, illustrations, and narration to explore an idea or tell a story, they practice essential 21st century literacies, building confidence in their ability to use technology as a tool communicate their ideas.
Best of all, students can use Wixie without adult help!
Wixie is easy to use and students can use most of the tools without instruction. While young students may need help logging in the first time at home, many students can easily access and share their work and teach the adults in their homes how to use the tools!
Wixie includes built-in help resources students can use to find answers to specific questions as well as explore and learn new technology skills. Other students enjoy exploring what a tool can do and pressing as many options as they can find, leading to new expertise they can share proudly when they return to school.
