Using Wixie's curriculum library to find, customize, and assign activities

Posted by Melinda Kolk on Oct 18, 2017 6:45:06 AM

Wixie is a digital tool that gives students tools to show what they know and share their ideas through their art, their voice, and their writing. While students can use Wixie as a digital canvas for their work, you can use the resources in Wixie's Curriculum Library for quick formative assessments and to support students as they complete performance tasks.

Before you begin exploring the curriculum library to find, customize, and assign activities, click the Settings button in the upper right corner of the Wixie teacher dashboard. Scroll down until you see the grade level check boxes for the activities.

Check the box for your grade level and maybe a level or two above and below depending on the learners in your classroom.

Click the Activities tab at the top of the teacher dashboard to save these changes and explore the activities.

The Activities tab shows all of the Wixie projects and templates you have created, as well as gives you access to Wixie's Curriculum Library, which contains over one thousand standards-based activities you can use to jump start student projects or use for quick formative assessments.

Open the folders in the Curriculum Library to browse activities grouped by subject area.

If you changed your settings, you will see only templates connected to the selected grade level(s) when you browse subject area folders in the Curriculum Library.

Click the Search field at the top to search for templates using a keyword, such as "base ten," or "comprehension." When you click the search field, you will also see an option to Search by Standard. Choose this to display a dialog that lets you choose standards, grade level, and additional criteria.

Once you locate an activity you want to use, use the Actions button to customize, view, or assign it to students.

When you assign the activity, you can choose both how long you want it available for students to begin, as well as exactly which students in your class(es) should see this particular activity in their Wixie dashboard.

When students log in to Wixie on the days you have activities assigned, they will see them in the Assignments tab of the student view during the dates you have assigned.

Students simply click the assignment and begin working.

And one final note. While you can quickly give students assignments directly from the Activities tab, we encourage you to go to the Actions menu and choose Customize so you can edit activities making them specific to the needs of students in your classroom and even create differentiated versions for various learners in the classroom.
