Wixie ideas for November

Posted by Danielle Abernethy on Oct 26, 2015 10:16:12 AM

November has my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, which is all about family and friends and good food, and not presents or candy. And if you’re lucky enough to live in an area where Mother Nature has a full color palette, the leaves still have their robust color. Here are several other holidays to celebrate and learn with Wixie during the month of November.

November is National Novel Writing Month (#NaNoWriMo), National Family Literacy Month, and National Life Writing Month. With Wixie’s capability to turn stories into ePubs, students can easily start writing their first (or next) great story and share with the rest of the student population.

November has lots of other holidays to help you celebrate writing. Younger students that still believe in Santa can celebrate National Dear Santa Week by writing a letter with their wish list, using images to help identify what they want and then writing why they deserve to receive them.

They could also celebrate National Electronic Card Day on November 29th, creating a card to embed or share digitally. Those cards might be to celebrate National Military Family Appreciation Month or to say thank you to the Educational Support Professionals which is celebrated on Wednesday of National Education Week.

STEM is another great theme in the month of November, with National STEM Day celebrated on November 8th. Check out this page of ideas on how to integrate Wixie with your STEM celebrations.

Then on November 15th, America celebrates America Recycles Day. Students can create a PSA about how to recycle or upcycle products found around the house. My son created a comic book holder out of old comics and a cereal box.

Students can also focus on getting healthy with the National Great American Smoke-Out on November 19th. Older students can create their own PSA’s and infographics on why smoking is not a healthy life style choice

As always, we’d love to see the projects you create! Please share with us on Facebook or in the comments below.
