Using the Template and Curriculum libraries to assign student work in Wixie

Posted by Melinda Kolk on Jul 22, 2019 8:20:00 AM

Wixie provides students with tools to show what they know and share their ideas through their art, their voice, and their writing.

While students can use a blank Wixie page to get started, they can also use the files in Wixie’s Curriculum and Templates libraries, or even those created by your school or district, to apply their learning. These templates are great for formative assessments as well as to support student project work.

Explore the templates and curriculum library

You will see Curriculum and Templates folders in the list on the left. Browse the:

  • Curriculum folder to assign activities for practice and formative assessment.
  • Templates folder to assign graphic organizers and other supports for student project work.

If your site has developed and shared custom activities, browse the folders for your school and/or district.

Use the Search field at the top to find activities using a keyword. Type a keyword and select the magnifying glass to activate the search.

Click the three dots on the right of the search field to look for templates based on standards.

Assign a template

When you find a template you want to use, use the three dots next to the file to choose Assign.

At the Assign dialog, choose both how long you want it available for students to begin, as well as exactly which classes, and which students you want to use the template.

When students log in to Wixie, they will see the assignment at the top of their home page.

Students select the assignment to begin working.

Customize the template

If you find the template isn’t exactly what you need, select the file to edit using the Wixie authoring tools. When you are finished, go to the File menu and choose Assign.

You can even create differentiated versions of your template to meet the needs of the range of learners in your classroom.

Adjust your Wixie account settings

The Curriculum and Templates libraries include over 2000 standards-focused activities. To see only those activities appropriate for the level of your students, it is helpful to adjust your account settings to reflect the grade at which you teach.

To adjust, select your profile icon and choose Settings.

In the My Account section of your Settings, scroll to see the grade level check boxes.

Check the box for your grade level and maybe a level or two above and below depending on the learners in your classroom.

Click the Home button to return to your Wixie home page.
