Managing assignments in a digital, now virtual, classroom is essential for success. Use these steps to assign and manage Wixie projects through Google Classroom.
Start by finding the file you wish to assign to your students. You can choose from one of over 1500 templates from the Wixie curriculum library by using the Templates folder. If you created your own Wixie file, find it inside your My Projects folder.
Select the three dots next to the template and select Assign.
A New Assignment window will open in Wixie. Select the dates for the assignment, then select the students that you want to complete the activity.
Once students are selected, the Google Classroom button will show in the lower left corner. Click the Classroom button.
If this is your first time connecting Wixie to your Google Classroom, you will need to go through the authorization steps.
There are four permissions you will need to grant Wixie to Google Classroom. Select Allow at the bottom of these permissions.
Once permissions are selected, the Google Classroom area at the bottom of the Assignment dialog will show a list of classes.
Select the Google class to assign the project from the drop down menu. Then select Save.
The activity is now assigned in Wixie and will be a Draft in your Google Classroom class.
Open your Google Classroom and select the class. Click Classwork. The assignment will appear as a “draft”. Select the 3 dots to edit.
The Title, Instructions, and Due date will have come over from Wixie.
Edit any of the other information you need.
Select the Assign button.
The assignment will now appear in the Class Stream.
Students will also see the assignment in their Stream or Classwork tab of Google Classroom.
Students may select to view the assignment to view full details. Click on the Wixie activity to log into Wixie.
Students complete the assignment in Wixie. When finished, select the Google Classroom button on the Wixie toolbar to submit the assignment.
The first time they complete an assignment, students will also need to grant Wixie permission to communicate with their Google Account. Be sure to instruct them to choose Allow.
Once permissions are granted and confirmed, the student will receive a success notice of project submission.
Students do not have to finish the activity in one session. If a student selects the link again later, it will pull up their file to complete. It will not start a new file.
The teacher will see how many students have turned in the assignment in Google Classroom.
Click on the number of submissions to see the student work. Click on the student work to view in Wixie.
Teachers may view the assignment in their Wixie teacher account and grade it using the rubric.
In Google Classroom, enter the number of points the student earned. Then select the 3 dots and return to confirm and share the grade with the student.
These directions are specifically for Google Classroom, but many other Learning Management Systems (LMS), like Canvas and Schoology, follow a similar process.
