Using Wixie with Seesaw

Posted by Danielle Abernethy on Jan 27, 2021 4:07:46 PM

Managing assignments in a digital, now virtual, classroom is essential for success. Use these steps to assign and manage Wixie projects through Seesaw.

Teachers assign the project

Start by finding the file you wish to assign to your students. You can choose from over 2000 templates from the Wixie Curriculum and Template libraries. If you created your own Wixie file, locate it inside your My Projects folder.

Select the three dots next to the template or file you want to assign and select the Share option.

A Share dialog will open in Wixie, showing the URL of the project. Select the Copy URL button.

Select Done to close the dialog.

Log into your Seesaw account, select the + Add button and choose Assign Activity.

At the next screen, choose Create New Activity.

Add a title and directions for students. Within the Student directions, be sure to include a link to the Wixie file or template you want students to use. You can use CTRL/Command + V or right-click to paste the URL to the Wixie file.

Select Save.

Select the green Assign button that now shows in the upper right corner.

At the dialog, select the class(es) and then select the Assign button.

The activity will now show in your Activities feed as a student assignment and the URL will be active.

Students open and complete the assignment in Wixie

When students are ready to begin the assignment, they need to log in to Wixie and then select the link in assignment.

If students are not already logged in to Wixie, they can use the Log In button in the upper right. As soon as they log in, Wixie will open the assigned file so students can begin creating and editing.

When students are finished working in Wixie, they should go to Wixie's File menu and choose Share.

At the Share dialog, select the Copy URL button and then select Done.

Students add the URL to Seesaw to submit their work.

Students should go back to their Seesaw Activities panel and select the Add Response button for the assignment.

At the dialog that appears, students select Link.

At the next dialog, students use CTRL/Command +V to paste the link to the Wixie file.

Select the green Check symbol.

Seesaw will capture a low-quality thumbnail of the project. This thumbnail might look pixelated in the portfolio area, but the project will open normally when the link is selected.

Select the green Check symbol in the upper right corner of this dialog too.

The response will now appear in the student's Journal and marked as "Waiting for Teacher Approval."

Happy creating!
