Wrap Up the School Year on a Positive Note

Posted by Tiffany Anderle on May 16, 2023 7:15:00 AM

As the school year draws to a close, it's important to keep students engaged and motivated until the very last day. Wixie can help with these fun and engaging ideas for celebrating the end of a successful year of learning.

Digital Yearbook

Reflect on the fun times and learning growth that has taken place in your classroom with a personal or class yearbook. Encourage students to include photos, drawings, text, and even videos that capture their favorite memories and experiences.

Students can use the Comic Yearbook or simply start from a blank book template.

End-of-Year Awards

Create end-of-year awards to celebrate each student’s unique qualities and contributions to your classroom. The Templates > Teacher folder includes several different designs like this Certificate of Achievement to get started.

Once the awards are complete, organize a ceremony to celebrate each student. An awards ceremony provides a fun experience that reinforces a positive classroom culture, promotes peer recognition, and boosts student engagement.

Compliment Cards

Ask students to create compliment cards for one of their peers, a teacher, a staff member, or a parent who has had a meaningful impact on their school year. Asking students to design and share compliment cards is a fun and easy way for them to practice their writing skills.

Students can get started with one of the many compliment card templates in Wixie.

When cards are complete, have students select the Print option and choose Comic Book to print 6 to a page.

You can also print them individually from the Students area of your teacher home page or using the project wizard.

Student Showcase

Creating a digital portfolio is a powerful way to showcase learning. The process of selecting their favorite projects and assignments helps students reflect on their learning and prompts additional growth.

Students can browse the Template > Portfolio folder to find the perfect design, such as classroom learning, colored pencils, learning adventure, portfolio, and lined paper to represent their hard work.

Plan a Class Party

Encourage students to work together to plan the ultimate end-of-the-year bash. Planning a party provides an exciting opportunity for students to practice the 4C’s (creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking).

wixie-sample-balloon-brainstormWork as a class using a cluster organizer to brainstorm ideas for their party, such as:

will there be a theme?
what decorations do they need to create?
who should they invite?
what games or activities will take place?
what food should they have?

Then, ask students to create a plan for the party. They can use Wixie’s tools and templates to create a visual representation of the day as well as create decorations and invitations to your fun event.

You may even have older students get started with the Plan a Party Proposal. In this project, students design a proposal for an event. They apply measurement skills to design room layouts and project costs. The template is blank so they can decorate.

Summer Bucket List

Make summer goal-setting fun by assigning the Summer Bucket List to encourage your students to continue to reach for their goals. Students can include images and text that represent their summer goals and plans.

Play to Learn

Start the day with a game to expand creativity and get students thinking and ready to work. Search “bell ringer” in Wixie to find many games like sudoku,  build words, and even a scavenger hunt

Students can take advantage of Wixie’s Team feature for real-time collaboration and engage in logic games such as tic tac toe, team tangram challenge, and more.

You may even have students design games they can play over the summer with their families. Students can get started with the Board Game template, where they can add text and images to each square and create player pieces as well as rules for their game. wixie-game-board
